Hello lash lovers,
This one is for you. Instead of tending to my couch full of clothes, I thought it would be a better idea to take a break from my domesticated slavery and “blog” about the fundamentals of Eyelash Extensions. Eyelash Extensions #101 - #411 - #911, whatever you would like to call it, is the service of attaching synthetic fibers to the natural eyelashes to enhance and define the appearance of the eyes.
One wise individual once said ‘I don’t need Google – my Wife knows everything’ and I must say, I couldn’t agree more. So without further ado, let me present to you; What are Eyelash Extensions?!
Eyelash extensions (EE) can be grouped into two categories, Classic and Volume. Dependent on the length and thickness of your natural lashes (NL), a maximum width of 0.15 mm can be used for a Classic set and 0.08 for a Volume Set; With a maximum length of 13 millimeters. It is essential that we stick to this guideline to ensure that we do not stress the NL, maintain maximum retention and avoid having you look like you are about to enter a club. According to the Lash Bible (don’t laugh, it actually exists), Commandment #1 states that Thou Shalt Not Overload The Lash Line. This means that I cannot turn this (no lashes) into this (full of lashes) with out doing some sort of damage to the NL. With sets like these, a complimentary eye infection is usually included.
In having said that, miracles do happen and it comes in the form of Russian Volume. Fluffy, intense and magical! A basic 2D set will take a minimum of 2-3 hours depending on the amount of NL. The EE used are very very VERY fine and removed at the base to create a fan prior to application. Please understand that this procedure takes A LOT OF TIME and PRECISION and though it is recommended for everyone, it may not be suitable for all. Due to the skill and training required for this technique, it does come with a heavier price tag. Ching Ching! While we are on the topic of price tag, the next time you opt for mink because it is of “better quality”, just know all EE are the same. You’re Welcome J
Silk, Mink, synthetic are all essentially the same make but with different appearances (e.g. matte, shiny, structured etc.).
For those who are wondering how do EE compare to Falsies, Lash lifting/Perming. Well to start, applying Falsies are a skill only gifted to few and lets not even speak about Lash Lifting, as results are only affective for those that are genetically blessed with eyelashes to begin with.
Ladies, I hope this has been an enjoyable read for you as it has been an enjoyable type for me. As much as I would love to continue, my never-ending mountain of clothes awaits. I would like to end this blog with a friendly and rather annoying reminder that every other lash artist likes uses… Cheap work is not great and great work is not cheap!
Brow for now (Bye for now),
